Transfer Advisors
Advisors can help, but
the choices are yours.
Who are the Transfer Advisors?
Veronica
Alford is the Manager of Articulation and Transfer Services.
She has a B.A. degree from Fisk
University,(An HBCU)
), and a Master’s degree from George Washington University.
Veronica was an advisor for thirty years (that’s a lot of
advising) prior to becoming Transfer Manager. She loves transfer,
but she also loves woodworking and crafting with rubber stamps.
She coordinates our programs with all Maryland four-year state
schools. She can help you to select the specific courses at PGCC
that will fit precisely with the major you have selected at your
transfer school in Maryland. She can help with your transfer plans
even to private institutions and out of state colleges and universities,
but guarantees cannot be made as they can be for Maryland state
Universities.
Barbara
Dougherty was an admissions counselor at Fordham University
and Director of Admissions at The Canterbury School in Connecticut.
She has been an advisor at Prince George’s Community College
for more than ten years. Her Bachelor’s degree and M.B.A.
were earned at Fordham University. Barbara works in all areas
of advising, but she specifically works with University of Maryland
University College to help facilitate our students’ transfer
there. In her leisure time Barbara does beautiful stained glass
work, but she is equally expert and interested in helping you
with your transfer plans. She facilitates our ARTSYS
transfer workshops and this year co-coordinated our Engineering
Day.
Candice
Caldwell welcomes new and returning students and can
help them identify their academic goals. She loves to work with
students interested in career exploration, and is always ready
to advise about transfer. Candice received her A.A.S. from Massachusetts
Bay Community College, B.A. from Lesley College and M.A. from
Trinity College. She is usually the facilitator for our Introduction
to Transfer workshops and is especially knowledgeable about transfer
to Howard University. This semester she coordinated our Allied
Health Day and Nursing Day Programs and co-coordinated the Engineering
Day Program.
Some advisors are specifically assigned to work with transfer,
but all advisors are skilled in helping with your transfer needs.
Dr.
Reyhan Razavi brings a wealth of advising experience
to the transfer area. She received a Bachelor’s degree in
Psychology/Counseling in her native country of Iran. She earned
a Master’s degree in Education/Counseling and her Doctorate
degree in Higher Education/International Multicultural from George
Washington University. She began her career in Education in Iran
and has worked at Prince George's Community College for many years.
If you want to converse in Farsi (Persian) and/or English, she
is the advisor for you. We feel privileged to have her. She is
very knowledgeable about the transfer relationship PGCC has with
Morgan State University and specifically works with students in
their CONNECT Program. She can help with all your transfer needs.
We have four advisors who are new to PGCC. They have much experience
from other colleges, so let them share their knowledge with you.
Anne
Arey’s degree is from Salisbury State University.
One of her favorite quotes is from T.E. Lawrence (of Arabia) “All
men dream, but not equally.” All advisors have good general
information about our Nursing and Allied Health Programs, but
when more depth of knowledge is required, we ask Anne or Art Asuncion.
They have all the details that are required.
Mary
Cook was born in North Dakota, but raised in Kansas.
She graduated from Johnson County Community College in 1975 and
received a B.S. degree in Arabic from Georgetown University. Inspired
to work with students, she earned an M.S. degree in Student Personnel
and Counseling from Kansas State University. She lived in the
Middle East for six years, and worked there as a journalist and
ESL instructor.
Julie
Enciso has a B.S. degree in Health Administration from
Northeastern University in Boston and an M.A. in Counseling degree
from Hampton University. Julie has worked as a high school guidance
counselor in public school systems. Visit her office and you will
learn about Puerto Rico. Julie is fluent in Spanish and loves
working with all students, but she has a special interest in working
with international students. She is a marathon runner and also
enjoys swimming, cycling and skiing. Julie says: “ Bienvenidos
a PGCC.”
Myriam
Placide is not a new advisor. She has worked with us
part-time for many years. Now, however, we are fortunate to have
her with us full-time. Myriam is a warm and friendly person, and
students often seek her out. She attended Prince George's Community
College and received an AA degree in Secondary Education. She
transferred to University of Maryland University College and earned
a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management. Myriam is originally
from Haiti and speaks French beautifully. She works with all students,
but she is especially skilled in working with Allied Health and
Nursing students.
Paul
Van Cleef is an experienced career advisor. If you are
a new student who attended an arena registration TRAC group, Paul
is affectionately known as “The TRAC Man” because
he does almost all of the TRAC (orientation) groups during that
time. Paul works with Advising, primarily, during arena registration.
At other times you will find him in Marlboro Hall 2101 where he
works as a Career advisor. Sometimes, you may even find him in
the classroom since he, also, teaches Psychology classes on campus.
He has a B.A. degree in Psychology from Pfeiffer University and
a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Salisbury
University. Let Paul guide you in your career and major choices.
He’s very good at what he does.
As you can see, we have advisors from varied backgrounds. They
have hobbies and many outside interests. Several speak more than
one language. If you want to speak Arabic, Persian, Spanish or
French, some one can help you in our office. Our advisors are
interesting, intelligent and caring people. I am sure you can
find the right one to help with your transfer needs. Come in to
see one of us.
We also have advisors at our extension centers: Laurel College
Center, University Town Center and Andrews Air Force Base. You
may get specific information about these centers at this website:
http://www.pgcc.edu/extensioncenters/index.html.
A phone number for information is: 301-322-0783. On campus or
off campus or in any season of the year, we are available to assist
you with your advising and transfer needs.
