What is Student Support Services? 

The Student Support Services at Prince George’s Community College (PGCC) is a federally funded grant program that provides academic and personal support services to assist eligible students to persist, graduate and/or transfer from PGCC. 

Who is eligible to join Student Support Services? 

To qualify to participate in the Student Support Services program, you must meet 1 or more of the following criteria: 

1.      LOW-INCOME STUDENT.  You are receiving financial aid such as Pell Grant, Student Loan, or Vocational Rehabilitation.  You must also must meet Federal Government low income requirements

2.      FIRST GENERATION STUDENT.  This means that neither of your parents received a four-year college degree.

3.      DISABLED STUDENT. You must have a documented physical or learning disability. 

What Services Does Student Support Services Offer That Might Make a Difference for You? 

Orientation – assistance in understanding the college’s requirements and finding your way around.  You will learn where to go, who to see, and what to do when you have a problem or a question. 

Academic advising – help in understanding and meeting the academic requirements of your major.  Assistance with course selection, scheduling, registration, and using the College catalog.

Financial aid advising – help in applying for and maintaining eligibility for student financial aid and scholarship programs.

Counseling – assistance in clarifying educational and career goals and meeting the demands of college life.  You can also get help with solving personal problems or discussing personal concerns that may be interfering with academic success.

Learning skills – assistance with developing stronger study skills for all participants and support to students with learning disabilities.

Tutoring – free one-on-one instruction, under the guidance of a qualified tutor, will help you learn at your own pace and in a manner suitable to your individual needs.  You and your tutor will meet once a week, building skills, knowledge, and a friendship.

Transfer assistance – assistance in preparing for transfer to four year colleges and universities.  You can get help in selecting a college, visiting it, and filling out the application.

We also present academic success workshops, keep you posted on the latest news with a new with a newsletter, mentor you if you ask and even have a summer enrichment program for those who want a more intense personal and academic growth experience.

How Do You Contact Us? 

The Student Support Services Program is located in Marlboro Hall, Room 2056.  The hours are: Monday through Thursday, 8:30 am – 8:00 pm and Friday, 8:30 – 5:00 pm.  The staff is available to help you by appointment or on a drop-in basis.  If you are interested in enrolling in the program, please visit or call the program office for an appointment.  Call 301.322.0681 to make an appointment or for more information.
