ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

 

1.  Submit Application for Admission

Ø   Submit forms to Admissions and Records Office: Lanham Hall Room 112

Ø   $25.00 application fee.

 

 

2.  Complete Appropriate Placement Tests

Ø       Required for all first time college students after application is processed

Ø       Michigan Test required for those students whose native language is other than Standard American English

Ø       Test may be waived for applicants who previously earned college credits in both English Composition and   Mathematics.  Consult an academic advisor if you are not sure

 

 

3.  High School Graduation or GED Equivalency Required

Ø       Bring original H.S. diploma or official GED scores to the Office of Admissions & Records

Ø      A college degree is substituted for the H.S. diploma requirement (transcript required; see #4 below)

 

 

4.  College Credits Transferred to PGCC

Ø       Request that each of your previous colleges send official transcripts to the PGCC Admissions & Records Office.   Failure to have transcript(s) sent to our College in a timely matter could delay your eligibility to complete the required qualifying prerequisites and admissions to a Health Science program.

Ø       Address:  Prince George’s Community College, Admissions and Records, 301 Largo Road,  Largo, MD 20774-2199

Ø      Submit Request for Evaluation of Transfer Credit form to the Admissions & Records office (otherwise transcript will not be evaluated for program of interest)

Ø     Meet with an academic advisor with your official transcript evaluation

Ø     LPN to RN Transition students must submit  proof of graduation from LPN school and Md. license

 

 

5.  Meet with an Academic Advisor Each Semester

Ø      To sequence your courses correctly and keep abreast of all procedures           

Ø      Go to "TS" Building, Phone 301.322.0150/0151

Ø      Attend Health Science Orientation Session (Times and dates to be scheduled each semester)

7.  Complete Developmental/ESL Courses if Required

Ø      Complete these preparatory courses prior to entry into the prerequisite courses

 

 

8.  Maintain a Cumulative (Overall) Grade Point Average of 2.0 or Higher

       The Nursing, Nuclear Medicine Technology and Radiography Programs require a competitive GPA. See reverse side for details

 

 

9.  File a Petition Form with Admissions and Records Office

Ø       File the form when you are attending your LAST qualifying prerequisite(s)class See other side

Ø       Go to the Academic Advisement office to get the Petition Form. Nursing petitioning deadlines: RN- April 1st for fall and Nov. 1st for spring semester.; LPN - April 1st; LPN to RN - Dec. 1st of the previous year.
Allied Health petitioning deadlines: EMT - Aug. 1st ; HIT - Rolling Admissions ; NUM - April 1st;
RAD - April 1st; RST - Rolling Admissions

Ø       EMT-P petitioners must see EMT-P program director for proper forms/requirements

Ø       Take the completed form to the Admissions/Records Office

NURSING

PROGRAM

QUALIFYING PREREQUISITE CLASSES

Associate Degree Nurse (RN) A.A.

Sequence of clinical courses begins twice a year in spring and fall

NUR 101, EGL 101, College level MAT (Mat 112 or higher), BIO 205, BIO 206 and PSY 101 completed with a minimum 2.5 GPA in these six  courses  to qualify for competitive ranking.  Ranking is from highest to lowest overall GPA.  Courses  not  applicable to the degree program will not be calculated in your overall GPA. 

Note:  NUR 101 prerequisites are EGL 101, BIO 205 & College level Math.  completed with a “C” or better grade and a minimum 2.5 GPA in these three courses.

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Certificate

Sequence of clinical courses begins once a year in fall

NUR 100, EGL 101, BIO 205, BIO 206 and PSY 101 completed with a minimum 2.5 GPA in these five courses to qualify for competitive ranking. Must be eligible for college level math. Ranking is from highest to lowest GPA. Courses not applicable to  the certificate will not be calculated in the overall GPA.

Note:  NUR 100 prerequisites are EGL101 and BIO 205 completed  with a “C” or better grade and a minimum 2.5 GPA in these two courses.  Also, eligibility for College level Math. (Math 112 or higher).

LPN to RN Transition Program  (R.N.) A.A.

Sequence of clinical courses begins once a year in Summer Session

EGL 101, college level MAT, PSY 101, BIO 201, BIO 205, and BIO 206 and PSY 207 completed with 2.5 or higher GPA.  Ranking is from highest to lowest GPA. Must have current LPN Maryland license.  dline.

ALLIED HEALTH 

Respiratory Therapy (RST) A.A.S.

Sequence of clinical courses begins once a year in fall Web site: www.aarc.org

BIO 205 and 206, MAT 112, and PSC 115 (offered spring only) or CHM 101 completed with “C” grade or above.  Eligibility for EGL 101.  Completion of Clinical Observation Sheet  (Available through Allied Health Department in Lanham Hall Room 303).

Nuclear Medicine Technology (NUM) Certificate or A.A.S.

Sequence of clinical courses begins once a year in summer Web site: www.snm.org

BIO 205 and 206, PHY 150(offered spring only), PSC 115(offered spring only) or CHM 101, CIS 101, MAT 112 and MAT 114 completed with “C” grade or above and a minimum 2.5 GPA  in these seven courses.  Eligibility for EGL 101. Certificate Option: Available to individuals with another Allied Health or Nursing Degree (e.g. Radiography, RN Degree)

Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT) Certificate or A.A.S.

EMT-B certification and affiliation required. Potential enrollees must be eligible for EGL 101, MAT 104 or higher and BIO courses. See EMT Program Director for more information.

Radiography (RAD) A.A.S.

Sequence of clinical courses begins once a year in fall  Web site: www.arrt.org or www.asrt.org

EGL 101, College level MAT (Math 112 or higher), BIO 205, BIO 206, and MHE 200 completed with “C” grade or higher and a minimum 2.5 GPA in these five courses.

Health Information Technology (HIT)

Certificate or A.A.S.

Sequence of clinical courses begins once a year in fall Web site: www.ahima.org

Degree: CIS 101, BIO 205 completed with a “C” grade or above.  Eligibility for MAT 114 and EGL 101.

Certificate: CIS 101, BIO 205 completed with “C” grade or above.  Eligibility for DVM 007 and EGL 101.

NOTES: Admission is not guaranteed for students at the time prerequisites are completed.  Refer to the technical standards for admission in the College Catalog.  Student is solely responsible  for completing all prerequisite program and graduation requirements.
