Library services, resources, and tools are available to distance learners, online users, and faculty at Prince George's Community College primarily through the Internet and online databases.

Reference Services

  • Telephone Assistance
    Assistance is available during the hours that the Library is open. During peak hours of service (10 a.m.-2 p.m., 6 p.m.-8 p.m. and weekends) responses to telephone inquiries may be delayed. Click services and hours to access the library hours and Reference Desk telephone number.

    AskUsNow! is a 24/7 interactive online service staffed by librarians in the Maryland library systems from academic and public libraries to provide research assistance to residents of Maryland.

    Use the Quick Research Library Tutorial to help write a term paper or do library research. Follow the research steps or use the specific
    section(s) that you need.
  • Library Instruction
    Specific courses may be delivered via the Blackboard system.  Distance learning faculty may arrange for instruction by contacting  Norma Schmidt, Instruction Librarian.

Collections

  • Reference Collection Largo Campus
    The Library's reference collection is a non circulating print collection. While Accokeek Hall is being renovated, a selective collection of materials is located in Lanham Hall 112. It includes general and subject encyclopedias, general and subject dictionaries, almanacs, handbooks, directories, atlases and other sources that relate to the subjects taught at the College.
  • Online Databases and Uses
    Online databases available from the Library's Web site are grouped as commercial (proprietary) and Internet and World Wide Web (non commercial). Many of the commercial databases are general or subject oriented with bibliographic citations, abstracts, and/or full text with various types of sources.
    • Access
      Go to the Online Databases page of the Library Web Site to access the databases.
    • Remote Access
      Prince George's Community College Library provides remote access to a number of commercial databases (e.g., Academic OneFile ProQuest Nursing & Allied Health Sources, CQ Researcher, etc.) The license agreements from the vendors for these services require that access be restricted to Prince George's Community College registered students, faculty, and staff. To learn how to access the databases.
    • Click the database you wish to search to access the login page.
    • Enter your "Owl Link" User ID & Password
    • If you forgot your "Owl Link" User ID or Password click "Owl Link Account Information
    • Next, to get your User ID, Select “What’s My User ID” and follow the prompts.
    • To get your Password, select “What’s My Password” follow the prompts.

  • Books, Multimedia, and Other Sources
    • The Library Collection
      The online catalog is not currently available remotely to access. Call the Reference Desk about source inquiries and holdings.

    • Books and Resources in Other Libraries
      Check holdings of local public, academic, and special libraries from the Other Catalogs and Libraries link of the Library Web site for sources that are not available at the Largo Campus.

  • Full Text Books on the Internet
    Selected free full text books are available from many sites on the World Wide Web.

  • Subject Collections
    Various types of Web sources and guides have been developed by librarians at Prince George's Community College to enhance and supplement instruction.
