Circulation


Circulation is located on the first floor of Lanham Hall in Room 112. Services include circulating books, audiovisuals, reserve materials, issuing photo identification cards, and assisting with the photocopying equipment. Most services are available to both the College community and the general public.

Services

The Library borrowers include enrolled students, staff, and faculty. These privileges are extended to alumni and special user groups in the community. Services include:Stacks

A Prince George's Community College photo identification card or a special community identification card is needed to check out materials. These cards are issued by the circulation staff.


Borrowers are:
  • students with a current validated Prince George's Community College photo identification card
  • staff and faculty with a Prince George's Community College photo identification card
  • alumni with a valid alumni card plus an official identification (e.g., driver's license or social security card)
  • residents of Prince George's County with a County Resident Card and other official identification
  • high school students who are members of the Prince George's Community College Special User Program (high school identification needed and approval by high school coordinator)


Circulating materials are:
  • books, music CDs, audiotapes, and selective videotapes (non circulating during renovation)
  • limited to five (5) check out items per day and a maximum number of ten (10); county residents and high school patrons are allowed a maximum of five (5) items
  • loaned for three (3) weeks with one renewal

Nursing and allied health materials are only available to enrolled Prince George's Community College students.

Fines are charged for overdue materials. Patrons fines begin at $2.00 per item for the first week plus $.25 each day starting the second week. A two (2) day loan item fine begins at $2.00 for each item and increases to $.25 per day on the third day. Both increase to a maximum of $8.00. When an item is lost, a replacement cost and a processing fee are charged. The borrower must pay the cost of the item, a maximum fine of $8.00 and a processing fee of $10.00


Audiovisual collections are: Slides
  • music and audio CDs
  • audio cassettes
  • vinyl discs
  • videotapes
  • DVDs

The audiovisual collections are located in the Circulation Department on the first floor.

Patrons may only view videotapes and DVDs in the Library. Faculty may check them out for Prince George's Community College instructional purposes only.

To request audiovisual materials for classroom delivery on campus:

  • make a reservation in advance by calling 301-322-0478, in person, by mail or email Caroline Lopez or Candice Cooper
  • make reservations for audiovisual materials no later than 2:00 p.m. before the day it is scheduled for use
  • faculty will need to book equipment separately by calling Audiovisual Technology Services at 301-322-0482
  • notify the Media Circulation staff of schedule changes, extensions or cancellations in advance

To request audiovisual materials for classroom delivery off campus:

  • pick up and return AV materials at Media Circulation, Accokeek Hall
  • note that deliveries are made to extension centers on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday

Other services include:

  • placing cataloged audiovisual materials on reserve for student assignments
  • scheduling Viewing Room A-111 for instructional use
  • renting a limited number of audiovisual materials from other institutions or vendors

Reserve materials are located behind the Circulation Desk. Materials are:
  • books, videotapes, articles, etc
  • placed on reserve by faculty for student use
  • circulated for use in the library only
  • circulated to students with a Prince George's Community College photo identification and it is held until the item(s) is returned


Video enhanced online course tapes are:Videotape and Cassette
  • collections of videotapes from video enhanced online courses
  • available for viewing without a fee during scheduled library hours for students enrolled in courses

Course videotapes or DVDs (if available) may be rented from RMI Media Production, an educational video distributor, for $55 to $60. The item is delivered in 2-3 days. Call RMI at 1-800-745-5480 or access their Web site at http://www.rmimedia.com.


Photo identification and special users cards

Photo identification cards are issued to:

  • full and part time faculty and staff
  • students enrolled in credit courses only and/or are validated each semester for currently enrolled students
  • used to check out library materials and for other college activities

Special users cards are issued to:

  • county residents who reside in Prince George's County and pay a $5.00 fee with proof of residency using a valid driver's license
  • high school students in the Prince George's Community College Special User Program (coordinator authorization) with a high school identification
  • alumni (call 301 322-3088 for card information)
  • non credit students by instructors
