Prince George's Community College at University Town Center is a convenient location for those living in the northwestern part of Prince George's County. The Center opened in August of 2000 and has grown steadily since that time. It now serves approximately 1,500 credit and continuing education students each semester. Nearly half of all UTC students were born outside the U.S., and the Center prides itself on the services and courses it provides for recent immigrants. The Center offers a wide range of services, such as admission, placement testing, registration, academic advising, and financial aid. The Center offers approximately 150 credit classes each fall and spring semester and 60 in the summer. Classes are small, personal, and available throughout the day from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 pm. The Center is open Monday through Saturday during the fall and spring, and Monday through Friday over the summer. Services are limited after 4:30 p.m. Call ahead for evening hours.

Hours: The Center offers day and evening classes Monday through Saturday. Office hours at University Town Center are 8:30 to 4:30, Monday through Thursday, and 8:30 to 2:00 on Fridays. When classes are in session, some offices are open in the evening, but you should always call ahead to verify evening hours: (301) 277-5934.

Admissions: PGCC at University Town Center (UTC) offers a range of services to students. We process all applications on site and the paper copy is sent to the Records office at the Largo campus. The application fee of $25.00 may be paid by check, money order, or credit card. We do not take cash payments.

Applicants who are not U.S. citizens must present evidence of permanent U.S. residency in the form of an original resident alien card or, for asylees, an original I-94 card at the time the application is submitted. The UTC staff will make a photocopy and attach it to the application form. This information is gathered solely for purposes of establishing the tuition rate.

For applicants who attended a university outside the U.S., information is available about the transfer evaluation process for foreign course work.

Placement Testing: UTC offers placement testing on Mondays and Wednesdays. No appointment is necessary, but individuals planning to take the placement test must be signed in by 10:15 a.m. The test begins promptly at 10:30 a.m. Your application for admission must be on file before you take the test. There are two types of placement tests: the Michigan Test for individuals whose mother tongue is not English, and the Accuplacer Test, which assesses the language and Math skills of native English speakers. Students are strongly encouraged to pick up and review a sample of the appropriate placement test prior to taking the test. Samples are available at the front desk.

After the test, you will be given an appointment for orientation. Orientation typically lasts two hours, including an individual meeting with an advisor to develop a class schedule based on the test results.

Transfer students who transfer courses in college level English and mathematics may be exempt from all or parts of the placement test. Ask an advisor if you are not sure.

Academic Advising: Academic advisors are available Monday through Friday, but advising hours vary. Call 301-277-5934 for specific times the advisors are available. Advisors can assist you with test score interpretation, course selection, career advice, transfer information, study skills, and enrollment concerns. After you have seen an advisor, you will be ready to register for classes.

Registration for credit classes: The staff at UTC is always ready to help you with any forms associated with enrolling or registering for college. If you register in person with us, we will process your registration form and print your bill. You can pay your bill at UTC by check, credit card, or money order - we do not accept cash. Additionally we handle forms for withdrawal, adding and dropping classes, transfer credit evaluation requests, requests for official transcripts, name and address changes, curriculum changes, and Veterans' Administration applications. To avoid concerns about prerequisites, students who have earned academic credit from other institutions should bring a copy of their records to show the advisor.

Registration for non-credit classes: We process non-credit course registrations at UTC. The most popular non-credit courses at the Center are computer classes for senior citizens through the SAGE program, and courses for health professionals such as Computerized Medical Billing, Medical Office Assistant, and Certified Nursing Assistant (geriatric aide).

Accepting payments/Financial Aid : We accept payment for credit and non-credit courses. Cash is not accepted at UTC. We accept checks, money orders, credit cards, and purchase orders (employer paid tuition). We are also authorized to assist you with the deferred payment plan (F.A.C.T.S.) The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is available, and after you receive the Student Aid Report from FAFSA, our advisors can review your materials with you. For more information on financial aid, go to http://www.pgcc.edu/financial_aid.html

Purchasing books: University Town Center does not have an on-site college bookstore. You may purchase your books directly from the Largo campus bookstore. Call ahead for their hours at 301-322-0912. Consult www.pgccbookstore.com for more information.

How does parking work? Because the Center is so close to a Metrorail station, and because the area around the Center is so developed, we cannot offer free parking to students. When you register at UTC, we will give you a flier explaining which parking lot to use and where to purchase the discount parking stickers.

Is there a library at University Town Center? We do not have a library at the Center, but there are considerable resources available here and nearby. First, all of the college library's online databases are available to students in our open computer labs. Guides highlighting the various databases and how to use them are available in the display racks outside each lab. Second, the college has formed a partnership with the Prince George's County Memorial Library System (the public library) to ensure that students can access the resources and support they need for research projects assigned to UTC classes. You can easily walk to the library; it is closer to UTC than some buildings are to each other on the main campus.

Are there computer labs available? Yes. The Center has two types of computer labs. There is an open lab available to anyone with a valid PGCC student ID. There is also a Learning Center, where students needing assistance and those who are required to complete a certain number of hours in the lab can do their work.

Do you have a quiet place to study there? Yes. In addition to the two computer lab mentioned above, we have a study lounge, which has individual study carrels.

Does UTC have a Writing Center and tutors? Yes, tutoring is available in Developmental Math, Credit Math, and Speech. Designated UTC faculty members also provide Writing Center support. Hours are limited for tutoring, and an appointment is needed for the Writing Center. Check at the front desk for more information.

Can I get a good cup of coffee there? Well, there's a deli on the first floor of our building, and a Starbucks across the street. You'll be fine, but don't even think about bringing the coffee into our computer lab! The student lounge (room 201) is the only room in our facility in which eating and drinking is permitted.

Prince George's Community College at University Town Center is located in Hyattsville, just across Belcrest Road from Prince George's Plaza, at 6505 Belcrest Road. The center is on the second floor, suite 200. The building is a short walk (about 5 minutes) from Metro's Green Line.

The visitor parking lot may be entered from the westbound lane of East-West Highway. There is an hourly charge to park in the visitor lot. All other parking around the building is reserved. From the visitor parking lot, enter the ground level of the building via the single door to the left of the social services entrance and proceed to the elevators in the lobby.

All parking for PGCC students in Hyattsville is now under the management of the Atlantic Services Group. Students at this location must pay to park. PGCC students with tuition receipts or valid student IDs are eligible to purchase stickers to receive a 50% discount off the posted rate. These validation stickers are available in the Atlantic Parking Services office located on the first floor of "Garage A" (3325 Toledo Road).
