The Laurel College Center (LCC) resulted from a unique joint effort between Prince George's Community College and Howard Community College to make a college education more accessible to the residents of Laurel and the surrounding area. This partnership was established in fall 2001, and the LCC has been growing ever since!

The LCC is conveniently located at 312 Marshall Avenue in downtown Laurel, next to the Laurel Shopping Center and close to the Laurel Mall. Our three-floor, 29-classroom facility houses 9 computer labs, 2 A+ and computer repair labs, and 18 spacious, air-conditioned classrooms. The LCC offers 80-100 credit and over 100 non-credit classes each semester. The classes are small, personal, with both day and evening classtimes available. The Center is open Monday through Friday with a wide range of services available, including: admissions, placement testing, academic advising, registration, and bill payment. We are also open on Saturday with limited services available. Please call ahead for hours and service availability, 1-866-228-6110.

"Get Ahead in Life" is the new Laurel College Center slogan and the LCC staff is waiting to help you do just that. Anyone can take classes at LCC, whether you have never taken a college class before or already have a college degree, whether you want to pursue a degree program or just take a course or two for fun, and regardless of where you live. You can earn an Associate degree in business administration, general studies, criminal justice, and applied information technology by attending classes at the Laurel College Center. Non-credit continuing education courses are also offered at the LCC to help you upgrade your job skills in a variety of areas including computers, finance and management, and various health fields. Other courses are offered simply for you enjoyment.  Please visit our website, www.laurelcollegecenter.org , for more information.

Admissions: PGCC at the Laurel College Center (LCC) offers a full range of services to students. If you are a new student to Prince George's Community College, you must first complete an application for admission. You can then submit the application to the Laurel College Center. We process all applications on site and the paper copy is sent to the Admissions and Records office at the Largo main campus. An application fee of $25.00 must be submitted with your application and may be paid by check, money order or credit card (VISA, MasterCard, Discover). We do not take cash payments at LCC. You may obtain an application from this website, the Laurel College Center website, www.laurelcollegecenter.org , the Largo campus, or on site at the LCC. You may also call 1-866-228-6110 to have one mailed to you.

Placement Testing: For credit degree programs, a placement test is usually required to determine each first-time student's math, reading and writing proficiency level as a part of the course selection and registration process. There are two types of placement test: the Michigan Test for individuals whose first language is not English, and the Accuplacer test, which assesses the language and math skills of native English speakers. The LCC offers both placement tests once a week on an appointment-only basis. Please call 1-866-228-6110 or 410-772-4162 for an appointment. Samples of the Accuplacer are available at LCC, and students are strongly encouraged to pick one up for review. Also, re-testing is available upon request. Your application for admission must be on file before taking the test.

The Accuplacer test is taken on a state-of-the-art personal computer system in our technology lab on the 4th floor of the center. Your test results are printed immediately after you complete the exam. The Michigan test includes a written portion that must be graded on main campus and takes approximately one week for results. When you have your test results, you may meet with an academic advisor (see advising schedule below). Transfer students who transfer courses in college level English and mathematics may be exempt from all or parts of the placement test. Ask an advisor if you are not sure. Call ahead for hours of testing and advising at 1-866-228-6110 or 410-772-4162.

Academic Advising: Academic advisors are available at the Laurel College Center on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 11:00am - 2:00pm and 4:00pm - 7:00pm. No appointment is necessary, just come to the center and sign in. Call 1-866-228-6110 to check on hours. Advisors can assist you with test score interpretation, course selection, career advice, transfer information, study skills and can answer concerns you have about your enrollment. After you have seen an advisor, you'll be ready to register for classes.

Registration for Credit Classes: The staff at Laurel College Center is always ready to help you with any forms associated with enrolling or registering for college. In-person registration is available at LCC. For your convenience, you can register for any PGCC course at LCC. If you register in person with us, we will process your registration form and print your bill. You can conveniently pay at Laurel, too! Additionally, we handle forms for withdrawal, adding and dropping classes, transfer credit evaluation requests, requests for official transcripts, name and address changes, curriculum changes and Veterans' Administration applications.

Registration for Non-credit Classes: We also process non-credit course registrations at Laurel College Center. We offer over 100 continuing education (noncredit) courses at Laurel each semester. Please see the PGCC noncredit schedule of classes for a class listing and a registration form, or go to our website at www.laurelcollegecenter.org . You can also get a registration form on-site at the LCC.

Accepting Payments/Financial Aid: We accept payment for credit and non-credit courses. At Laurel College Center, we accept all types of payments except cash. We process checks, money orders, credit cards (VISA, MasterCard, Discover) and purchase orders (employer paid tuition). This includes Tuition Assistance through the military branches. We are also authorized to assist you with the deferred payment plan (F.A.C.T.S.) Free Applications for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA) are available also. For more information on financial aid (other than military tuition assistance), go to http://www.pgcc.edu/financial_aid.html .

Purchasing Books: Where to purchase textbooks is one of the most frequently asked questions at the Laurel College Center. The Laurel College Center does not have an on-site bookstore. In addition, while you will earn credit through Prince George's Community College, some of the courses you take at the LCC will actually be taught by faculty from our partner institution, Howard Community College. It is important that you purchase your textbooks from the college that is supplying the instructor for the course. There is a Textbook Purchasing Guide in the main campus schedule of classes, as well as on the LCC website, www.laurelcollegecenter.org , which will tell you where to purchase your textbook.

Also, here is a simple "rule of thumb": If the reference # for your class begins with "99", then you must purchase the textbook at the HCC bookstore. Otherwise, purchase your textbook at the PGCC bookstore. Once you know which bookstore to buy your textbook (PGCC or HCC), you can either visit the bookstore, order online, or order over the phone. For the PGCC Bookstore: call 301-322-0912, or order online at www.pgccbookstore.com. For the HCC Bookstore: order online at www.howardcc.edu (click on Resources), or for information call 410-772-4816. NOTE: At your request, textbooks from PGCC and HCC bookstores can be delivered to the Laurel College Center (phone orders only).
